Editing vs. Sending a Campaign: What’s the difference?
Campaigns have two distinct modes: editing and sending. Understanding which mode you’re in is the key to avoiding the most common confusion: you can’t add recipients while you’re editing. Recipients are only added when you’re sending.
Editing a campaign allows you to build and maintain the campaign (the “template” you’ll reuse)
Send through a Campaign allows you to upload recipients and send gift invitations (the “action” that creates gift requests and emails/links)
Editing a Campaign
How to Edit Campaigns
To edit a campaign, click the 'View campaigns' button on the homepage to view the Campaign Index.
Then, click the menu on a campaign, and select 'Edit'.
Why edit campaigns
Use Edit Campaign when you want to change the setup of the campaign for future sends. Typical things you can do while editing:
Update the campaign name
Change the gift selection (add/remove items)
Adjust the campaign type (e.g., recipients choose 1 item vs. receive everything)
Update theme / redemption experience settings
Update notecard
Set or update the default email invitation copy that will appear pre-filled when you send later (depending on your workflow)
Important notes:
Editing does not send anything.
Editing does not upload recipients.
Changes you make here generally apply to future sends from that campaign.
Sending through Campaigns
How to send from a campaign
To send gifts from a campaign, click on the campaign from the homepage.
Alternately, click the 'View campaigns' button on the homepage to view the Campaign Index.
Then, click the menu on a campaign, and select 'Send Campaign'.
See more on Sending from a campaign here.
Important notes:
Sending is what creates the outgoing send (gift requests + invitations, where applicable).
Once you confirm a send, recipients may be contacted immediately (depending on method), so make sure everything is correct before submitting.
Sending vs Editing Quick Guide
Choose Edit Campaign if you want to…
Fix or update what’s inside the campaign
Change the campaign’s theme, gifts, or defaults
Prepare a campaign for someone else to use later
Choose Send Campaign if you want to…
Upload recipients
Trigger emails / generate links
Launch a new batch for an existing campaign
Troubleshooting help: "I can't add recipients to my campaign!"
If you’re looking at a campaign and don’t see anywhere to upload recipients, you’re almost always in Edit Campaign.
To resolve:
Go back to your Campaign list/index
Choose the option labeled Send Campaign (not Edit)
Upload your recipients from the send flow
Key takeaway
Think of a campaign like a reusable “container”:
Edit Campaign changes the container.
Send Campaign uses the container to send to a specific group of recipients right now.
