If your company runs HR on Rippling, you can connect it to &Open so your employee directory stays current on its own. You install &Open from the Rippling App Shop, and from then on new joiners, leavers, and team changes flow into &Open automatically. Your team can also sign in to &Open with Rippling, so there's no separate password to manage.
Before you start
You need to be a Rippling admin to install the app, since the install decides which employees get access to &Open. You also need an &Open account. If you're not sure whether you have admin access in Rippling, your Rippling admin can check for you.
Install &Open from the Rippling App Shop
In Rippling, open the App Shop and search for &Open.
Open the &Open listing and choose Install.
Sign in to connect the app to your &Open account. There are no API keys to copy and nothing to exchange with your account manager.
During Rippling's install flow, choose which employees are given access to &Open.
Once you finish, &Open sets up the connection and runs a first sync straight away. Your employees appear in &Open within a few minutes.
How your employee directory stays in sync
After the first sync, &Open keeps your directory current in three ways, so you don't have to upload anything by hand:
A daily sync picks up changes automatically.
Real-time updates come through whenever an employee's record changes in Rippling.
You can run a manual re-sync any time from the Rippling connection in your &Open settings.
&Open syncs your employees along with their work locations and teams, so you can search and filter your people when you build a campaign.
Signing in with Rippling
Your team can sign in to &Open with their Rippling account. There are two ways in:
From the &Open tile in Rippling.
With the Sign in with Rippling button on the &Open login page.
The first time someone signs in this way, &Open creates their account for them, so there's no separate sign-up step. Sign-in is set up automatically when you install the app, so there's no SAML configuration to complete.
How access is managed
Rippling controls who can get into &Open. Only employees you've given the &Open app in Rippling, and who are active, can sign in. When someone is offboarded or has the app removed in Rippling, their &Open access is revoked automatically. That means access always reflects who actually works at your company, without anyone having to remember to remove people.
Questions and answers
What employee information does &Open sync?
&Open reads the details it needs to send gifts and to help you find the right people: names, work email addresses, work locations, and teams. It doesn't read sensitive fields.
Can I send gifts to home addresses or run birthday gifts from Rippling data?
Not from Rippling. Rippling's data policy means &Open can't read dates of birth, home addresses, or personal email addresses, so home-address shipping and birthday gifting aren't driven by your Rippling data. You can still run these by adding that information another way, such as a recipient upload. Your &Open account team can talk you through the options.
Someone has left the company. Do I need to remove them from &Open?
No. When an employee is offboarded in Rippling, or you remove the &Open app from them, &Open revokes their access automatically.
A new hire isn't showing up yet. What should I do?
Check that they've been given the &Open app in Rippling and that their record is active. New records usually come through in real time, and a daily sync catches anything else. If you'd like it sooner, run a manual re-sync from the Rippling connection in your &Open settings.
How often does the directory update?
Changes in Rippling come through in real time, and a daily sync runs as a backstop. You can also re-sync manually whenever you want.
Can employees sign in before I've installed the app?
No. Signing in with Rippling works once you've installed &Open from the Rippling App Shop and given people access.
