Building live gifting views in Claude

Written by Catherine Walker

With the &Open MCP connected in the Claude desktop app, you can ask Claude to build you a live view of your gifting data: a page that pulls fresh numbers from &Open every time you open it. This article covers how to ask for one, how to change it, and how to share it with your team.

Before you start

You need the &Open MCP connected in Claude, and you need the Claude desktop app. Installing the &Open MCP walks through connecting it.

When you start a new task in Claude, you choose whether it runs in the cloud or on the desktop, using the control in the top right of the window. Choose the desktop. Live views don't work in the cloud.

This is specific to Claude. Other AI assistants can answer questions about your gifting data through the &Open MCP, but they can't build a page like this yet.

What a live view is

A live view is a page Claude builds for you and saves. It isn't an export or a screenshot. Every time you open it, it asks &Open for your data again and redraws itself with whatever it finds.

So the numbers are always current. And the page only shows the gifting data you'd see when you log in to &Open, because it runs as you.

Asking Claude to build one

There's nothing to set up and no template to fill in. Describe what you want to see.

The requests that work best say what data you want, how you'd like it arranged, and what you're trying to do with it:

"Build me a live view of my campaigns showing the redemption rate for each one, worst first, so I can see which ones need attention."

"Give me a page listing every gift invitation I've sent in the last 30 days that nobody has redeemed yet."

"Make me a page showing how much gifting budget I have left against what I've already committed."

Claude reads your gifting data first, then builds the page around what it finds. Give it a moment if you've sent a lot of gifts.

Changing a view

Just ask. With the page in front of you, tell Claude what you'd like different: another sort order, an extra column, no chart, only your own campaigns. Claude updates the same page rather than building a new one.

Your views are saved, so you can close one and come back to it later. Ask Claude to open it again by name.

What to build

A few that work well:

  • A page you open each Monday showing gift invitations nobody has redeemed yet, so you know who to follow up with.

  • Your remaining gifting budget next to what you've already committed.

  • Every campaign side by side with its redemption rate, so you can see which ones land and which don't.

  • One seasonal send tracked on its own page, from invitation through to delivery.

If you have other tools connected to Claude, it can pull from those into the same page.

Sharing a view with your team

You can share a live view with a colleague. They open it in their own Claude, and it runs against their &Open connection rather than yours.

That means they see their own gifting data, not yours. A view built around "my gifts" shows them their gifts. It works nicely as a template for a team to each use with their own data. If you want to show someone one specific set of numbers, send a screenshot instead.

Your colleague needs the &Open MCP connected in their own Claude, or the view has nothing to show them.

Questions and answers

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Describe what you want and Claude builds the page for you.

Can I do this with ChatGPT or another assistant?

Not today. Other assistants can answer questions about your gifting data through the &Open MCP, but building a live view is specific to the Claude desktop app.

Where does the data come from?

The same &Open data your assistant can already read: your gifting budget, your campaigns, and the gift invitations you've sent. A live view can't see anything you couldn't see when logged in to &Open.

Can a live view send gifts?

It can, if you ask Claude to build one that does. Adding a gift recipient to a campaign creates a real gift invitation and uses your gifting budget, just as it would if you asked Claude directly in the conversation. A view built to show your data doesn't send anything.

Why is my view empty?

Check that the &Open MCP is still connected in Claude's settings. If the connection has been removed, the page has nothing to read. If it's connected and the page is still empty, ask Claude the same question in the conversation and see what comes back.

Can I put a live view on a screen in the office, or email it to someone?

No. A live view opens inside Claude and needs your &Open connection to run.

Can my team all see the same numbers in one view?

Only what each of you would see logged in to &Open. A live view follows your &Open permissions. If you're an admin with visibility of your team's campaigns and gifts, your views show that too.
