Canceling a gift invitation with the &Open MCP

Written by Catherine Walker

If a gift shouldn't go ahead, for example because it went to the wrong person, you can ask your AI assistant to cancel it. You can cancel any gift invitation that hasn't been redeemed yet.

Canceling a gift invitation

Tell your assistant which gift to cancel. The gift recipient's name or email address works, or paste the gift reference or the gift's link from Gift History.

"Cancel the gift I sent to sarah@acme.com this morning."

Here's what happens:

  1. Your assistant finds the gift and shows you which one it is: who it went to and from which campaign.

  2. Check it's the right gift. A cancellation can't be undone.

  3. Confirm, and your assistant cancels it.

Before you cancel

Cancel only when a gift shouldn't go any further. If &Open has already emailed the gift recipient, they've probably seen the invitation. Once you cancel, &Open tells the gift recipient the gift has been canceled, and their personal gift link shows a card saying so.

Who can cancel what

Gift senders can cancel gift invitations they sent. Admins can cancel any gift invitation in the account. These are the same rules as in &Open.

Questions and answers

Why can't I cancel this gift?

You can only cancel a gift that hasn't been redeemed. Once the gift recipient has claimed it, you can't cancel it from your assistant or from &Open. Your assistant tells you why a cancellation didn't go through.

Does the gift recipient find out?

Yes. &Open lets them know the gift has been canceled. If they open their personal gift link, they get a card saying the gift was canceled.

What happens to my budget?

The budget that was set aside for the gift is released, so you can spend it on another gift.

Can I undo a cancellation?

No. If you canceled a gift by mistake, send a new gift invitation.

Will my assistant cancel a gift without asking me?

No. Your assistant confirms the exact gift with you before it cancels anything.
