Overview
The &Open API lets your engineering team connect gifting to any system — your own product, a data warehouse, a customer data platform, or a custom internal tool. It's the right choice when you want gifting to happen automatically as part of a workflow that's specific to your business.
This article is written for business and product teams who want to understand what's possible before involving their developers.
What it makes possible
Trigger gift invitations from product events
Send a gift invitation when a user hits a milestone inside your product — a first purchase, a usage threshold, a renewal, a referral. The trigger can be any event your product tracks.
For example: a SaaS platform sends a gift invitation when a customer hits 1,000 active users for the first time — a signal that they've become a power user worth celebrating, and a natural moment to deepen the relationship.
Connect gifting to your data stack
Pull data from a data warehouse, a customer data platform, or a CRM that &Open doesn't integrate with natively, and use it to drive gift invitations.
For example: a revenue operations team uses their data warehouse to identify customers who've been with the company for over two years but haven't expanded their contract. They trigger a gift campaign to re-engage them — using data that lives outside Salesforce or HubSpot.
Build gifting into custom internal tools
If your team uses internal tools that don't connect to off-the-shelf platforms, the API lets your developers add gifting directly to those workflows.
For example: a professional services firm uses an internal project management tool. When a project is marked complete by the team lead, the tool automatically sends a gift invitation to the client contact — a thank-you that feels personal, not automated.
Check on gift invitation status programmatically
Your systems can query the API at any time to see whether a gift invitation has been sent, redeemed, or delivered — useful for triggering follow-up actions automatically.
For example: an e-commerce platform sends a gift invitation after a customer's first purchase. When the API confirms the gift has been redeemed, the platform automatically queues a follow-up email — "Hope you're enjoying your gift. Here's something for your next order." The whole sequence runs without any manual input.
How it works
The API is built around two main actions:
Retrieve your campaigns — your developers can fetch a list of all the campaigns set up in your &Open account. This is how your system knows which campaign to assign to a gift recipient.
Send a gift invitation — when the right moment happens in your system, your developers send a gift invitation by passing the gift recipient's name, email address, and the campaign they should receive. &Open handles everything from there.
Authentication is handled with a standard API key, provided by your &Open Customer Success Manager. Full technical documentation — including code examples in six languages — is available at developers.andopen.co.
What your team needs
A developer — someone comfortable making API calls. A basic integration typically takes one to two days to build.
A clear trigger — the event in your system that should kick off a gift invitation.
Your &Open Customer Success Manager — to provide your API key and help you identify the right campaigns to use.
Is the API right for us?
The API is a great fit if you want gifting to happen based on data or events that only your own systems can see, or if you're already using Salesforce or HubSpot but want to supplement those integrations with something more custom. If your team works primarily in Salesforce, HubSpot, or a supported HR system, one of those integrations is likely a faster path to getting started.
