To enable the &Open platform to communicate to Hubspot, you will create a “private app” in your Hubspot settings. By setting this up, you will enable your gifting platform to access your HubSpot account securely through an API, allowing you to set up automations for your gifting.

Setting up a private app

To set up API access, navigate to the gear icon in your top navigation bar to access Settings.

Next, go to the “Legacy Apps” settings page, under Integrations.

There, we're going to press “Create a legacy app” and then fill in the form to set it up.

Choose Private on the next menu. We recommend the following settings:

Name: &Open Gifting Platform

Description: Describe how you’re using the app so your teammates on HubSpot understand the intent of the app.

Logo: You can download this image and then upload it

On the second tab “Scopes”, you will need to enable the crm.objects.contacts access, in both the “read” and “write” columns. This will let the &Open gifting platform read in details of a contact and also append data, like gifting activity so that your Hubspot account can reflect changes from your gifting activity.

You don’t need to change anything on the third tab “Webhooks”. That’s it, press “Create App” to save your app. You should see it set up now back on the “Legacy Apps” screen.

Click in to the app now, and open the “Auth” tab to access your API key, here referred to as an “Access token”.

Press the link to “Show token” and then copy this. It will look something like this: pat-na1-ac97c605-ee4b-4fb6-a181-afc9b59a2b35. Then set it via the admin interface (/admin/hubspot). The user adding the HubSpot credential must be a HubSpot account administrator.

We’ll verify that the access level set up is correct, and then you can begin automating your gifting reporting. You will start to see activity and engagement notes begin to appear on your Contacts automatically as you start to send gifts out to them, and you can click on the links to see all the details of the gift that was selected.
